"Unlike newspapers, record companies own the distribution and the product being distributed, so you can't just start your own website where you give out music that they own - and that's what this is all about: distribution. Lots of pro-piracy types argue that music can be free because people will always love music, and they'll pay for concert tickets, and merchandise, and the marketplace will shift and artists will survive. Well, yes, that might be an option for some artists, but that does nothing to help the record labels, because they don't make any money off of merchandise, or concert tickets. Distribution and ownership are what they control, and those are the two things piracy threatens. The few major labels left are parts of giant media conglomerations - owned by huge parent companies for whom artists and albums are just numbers on a piece of paper. It's why record companies shove disposable pop crap down your throat instead of nurturing career artists: because they have CEOs and shareholders to answer to, and those people don't give a shit if a really great band has the potential to get really successful, if given the right support over the next decade. They see that Gwen Stefani's latest musical turd sold millions, because parents of twelve year old girls still buy music for their kids, and the parent company demands more easy-money pop garbage that will be forgotten about next month. The only thing that matters to these corporations is profit - period. Music isn't thought of as an art form, as it was in the earlier days of the industry where labels were started by music-lovers - it's a product, pure and simple. And many of these corporations also own the manufacturing plants that create the CDs, so they make money on all sides - and lose money even from legal MP3s."

Read it, i know its long but it is worth it. the paragraph above is my favourite. explains why i love underground bands and stuff.

here's more excerpts from the article.

"It's all changed."

"Here's an interesting aside: The RIAA loves to complain about music pirates leaking albums onto the internet before they're released in stores - painting the leakers as vicious pirates dead set on attacking their enemy, the music industry. But you know where music leaks from? From the fucking source, of course - the labels! At this point, most bands know that once their finished album is sent off to the label, the risk of it turning up online begins, because the labels are full of low-level workers who happen to be music fans who can't wait to share the band's new album with their friends. If the album manages to not leak directly from the label, it is guaranteed to leak once it heads off to manufacturing. Someone at the manufacturing plant is always happy to sneak off with a copy, and before long, it turns up online. Why? Because people love music, and they can't wait to hear their favorite band's new album! It's not about profit, and it's not about maliciousness."

"Maybe it's time to abandon the notion of the rock star - of music as a route to fame and fortune. The best music was always made by people who weren't in it for the money, anyway."

Finally a few suggestions by this Rob guy

1. stop buying music from major labels. period
2. support artistes directly
3. get the message out
4, get political

God damn now it feels really good to be a pirate. too bad the good ones are not sold here. digital is the way!

Octopod OEM

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

After about a month of playing and twiddling around with me brand new camera i realised there were plentiful of pictures that turned out blurry than its supposed to be. And this got me asking, " Hrmm, what is causing this problem and what in God's name can solve it?"

Due to heavy work that i endure day in and day out , my hands has become less steady than how it was if i were dead or asleep so to fight this problem, i need something. Hence, this new octopod tripod.

this baby i got it off off lelong a week ago and it is one cool motherfucker gizmo. It has a 135 degress freeplay in any direction on each joint which is located every inch of the tripod. There is 35 joints on this freaking tripod!!!What does this mean? Well, ultimate mobility. You can take steady shots almost everywhere now. Besides. it looks cool too.

That Awful Memory Of Yours

Sunday, October 21, 2007

It feels strangely awkward not having anything to do during the weekends after three weeks of constant work. Have been feeling bored and lost the whole of today, so i ended up editing a wallpaper, changed my header, ate twice and still feeling hungry, downloaded a few albums and constantly scratching my head figuring what else is there to do today.

Yesterday was supposed to be a day filled with pellets blazing by, dodgings and actionpacked experience but God just decided to let it rain cats and dogs so by the time we reached there (40kms away from my house) it was too late. The management said that we couldnt not play in the rain. Sigh. Then we drove back home. Disatisfied, Lai jeng suggested to do something else and hence, 4 hours playing games in SS2 with everyone else.

Nevertheless, we will still be playing it ( or else the 200 ringgit deposit would be such a waste) one day.

How I Celebrate Raya

Saturday, October 13, 2007

This raya weekend i decided to work, just because i get to claim public holidays rate, which is like A LOT more than the normal overtime rate that i get on normal days.Working overtime during fasting month means that there are very very few people staying back, especially muslims. With a newly bought camera, i decided to bring it to work for one day even if its prohibited to do so. Don't know why. I can get caught for taking pictures in MAS.
It was thursday and i went snapping pictures while everyone else was out breaking their fast. I actually took a bunch of pictures and videos on thursday and yesterday but the videos, i will post it up some other day.
Today saturday honestly i didnt want to go to work because i've been feeling shit tired since wednesday or so, but they needed manpower for my zone so i had to go in the end anyway. Took half day off so that i could go raya visiting with my housemate in the afternoon.
It is now saturday night and tomorrow and monday im going to work overtime somemore. For what you ask me? Well its just because i can. Haha. and i want to help to get the job done as well. Of course. Im not greedy fyi.
One thing great about working here is that you get to see a lot of different characters, things and experiences. For example, im working under this one engineer who actually is so much crazier than i am and he talks cock as if he was one of us. It's actually great fun working under him. There's always vulgars and jokes thrown around while working which makes the environment great.
Other than that i'm doing great. Nothing new except the fact that im feeling very tired and sleepy during work.
I guess that's all lah. so lazy wanna blog. I wan to rot.

end.

Hi little children out in the world. The mixed tape is back once again with a fresh new set of songs for your craving ears! This week's theme is all about rock bands, or underground indie ones which uses at least one thing electronic in their song.

Concept Albums. What's the first thing you think of when u first hear Concept Albums. No Don't Tell me My Chemical Romance's Black Parade. We all know that. Its so popular that im sick of them.

If you look hard enough in the world wide web you'll find that there's a lof of concept albums out there. Like Funeral For a Friend's Tales Don't Tell Themselves, Greenday's American Idiot (bet you didn't know that) or Coheed & Cambria. Today im not going to talk about any of these albums because i think they've gotten enough airplay already. Instead there's this concept album (Broken Bride) by a band who call themselves Ludo. << click here to have a listen

Although its only a five track album and the story and plot bear several resemblence to the movie The Time machine, the album is nevertheless good in its own way. The lyrics, the diversity of genres, the plot and the ending. All fit together like one big Epic movie!

I had a tough time getting my hands on all of their songs. Apparently these guys are quite underground. In the end it was all worth it. The album. Is ten times better than that crappy movie with samantha mumba in it.

Another good news? Ludo's coming out with a new album yay! next year.

Click HERE to read the summary of the plot. Enjoy.

My Eyes Are Burnin'

Thursday, October 04, 2007

I'm afraid to admit it but working overtime these past few days has actually been more fun that working during normal hours. Maybe its because of the fact that its fasting month and most Muslims just go back rather than doing overtime, or the fact that having a cool and crazy engineer who trusts you and lets you do your job independantly or maybe because having great seniors staying back alone with you or even maybe because it feels so great in the evening when there's no one around the aircraft and the aircraft being so peaceful, or because the lead technician ( the persons who monitors manpower) lets you sign off early once the job is done, but either way, im pretty much contented with the work load and everything else.

The irony now is that i've forgotten why am i even doing overtime so much. I'll be earning a lot more than i planned by the end of the month and yet, im still doing it. Habit i suppose. Perhaps because for the past 2 months my mind's been set to do overtime to cover back the last two months when i didn't even overtime , not even once.

Today i had another go at CPC. Corrosion Prevention And Control. Basically we (we as in those involved in the maintenance of aircrafts) have to take measures to prevent corrosion from taking place. On the exteriors its usually paint but on the inside we use Dinitrol Av30. Dinitrol AV What!? AH! Eveni myself don't even know wad exactly it is, but just know it looks like varnish in an aerosol can only deadlier! Yea its pretty hazardous. And somehow it is approved by aviation authorities worldwide and such so yea, it is required by law to get it done.

So all 6 of us got into gear ( we looked pretty much like the picture above, plus a more bigass respirator) and started spraying the cargo compartment. For a moment in there i lost my breath, had trouble breathing so i went out a couple of times, to get some fresh air.

Finally after almost an hour we're soaking wet in sweat, tired, sore but nonetheless we were done for the day and now, im here blogging! Woot.

I could not find where i put my safety glasses so my eyes were slightly sore and hence, the title. Goodnight.

No ladies, we did not forget about it. We have not lost interest in making mixtapes. Hence, here is another one.

This week's theme is pretty simple. Ballads. Just ballads. Nothing more. And No, we're not lazy ( if you had that in mind). In every album, no matter who it is there's always gonna be power pop songs and one or two very personal ballad, something light and easy and so forth.

Anyways here's the list for this week. Enjoy. If you don't then you just gotta wait another week for a brand new mixtape.

FM Static - Tonight
All Time Low - Remembering Sunday
Embrace - A Glorious Day
Chiodos - Intensity In Ten Cities
The Classic Crime - Headlights
